Written and illustrated by Ohara Hale

Brain Pickings’ #1 Best Picture Book of 2018

The rambunctiously designed illustrations of bugs, plants, fruit, snails, and other aspects of the natural world are done in simple, warm, unshaded colors and black crayonlike outlines that echo and support the narrative's ingenuousness, as does the hand-lettered text. It doesn't take itself too seriously-some segments are endearingly silly, especially the asides of some of the critters voicing their opinions. What sets this book apart from so many others with the same theme of the nourishment derived from connecting with life is its infectious joy, delivered simply and sincerely."-STARRED REVIEW, Kirkus Reviews

Starting from the premise that everything is alive-a feeling that is deep and immediate for many children- Be Still, Life draws the reader into a still place where everything is moving. Thought-provoking in its depiction of the relationship between stillness and motion, this is certain to engage children, slowing them down through sheer fascination and delight.Ohara Haleis a multi-disciplinary artist. Born in Hollywood, California, she now lives in Montreal, Quebec. She works as a fine artist, illustrator, musician/singer, director, animator, voiceover actor, graphic designer, and art director. Hale shares her studio with her dog, Banana. Hale loves all creatures, including spiders and snakes!

Ohara Hale is a multi-disciplinary artist. Born in Hollywood, Hale, who spent her youth in the Midwest and formative years in Los Angeles and other parts of the universe, now lives in Montreal.
She works as a fine artist, illustrator, director, animator, voiceover actor, graphic designer and art director. Hale shares her studio with her dog, Banana, who looks like a pig and snorts like one, which is great because Hale loves pigs as much as she loves dogs.So Banana serves as a two-in-one combopet. Hale loves all creatures, including spiders and even snakes!

About Enchanted Lion Books:

Enchanted Lion Books is an independent children’s book publisher based in Brooklyn, New York. We publish illustrated books from around the world, convinced by the power of cultural exchange to inspire curiosity, awareness, and wonder in children everywhere. We reach across time and oceans to find new authors and old treasures to share with a new generation of readers.

We live with the books we publish long before they go to press, and we commit to them because they are beautiful and lively, thoughtful and full of feeling. Many evince a fierce belief in the imagination, paying as much attention to inner exploratory landscapes as to the world around us. Books allow us to explore worlds long before we travel and long after. We therefore seek to give children books that will help them feel that this world we share, with all its surprising, wonderful complexity and beauty, is home.
